Entrepreneurship often comes with the belief that the only path to success is constant work and dedication. However, it is essential to remember that taking time off, enjoying weekends, spending time with friends & family, and even taking a day or two for yourself is not only acceptable but, essential!

Trust me, I’ve been there. Working all day everyday, and the second I stopped to do anything other than work, I immediately felt like I wasn’t doing enough. Or I didn’t deserve time to relax. I remember taking a lunch break and looking at my phone to notice that it had just been an hour - I thought to myself “OMG, I only got a 30 minute lunch break when I worked at Target… what am I doing?!” I know this is a common feeling among other business owners as well but I had to remind myself it is okay to take time off, to reset and refresh!

Heres a few reasons why you shouldn’t feel guilty:

  1. Recharge and refocus: 🔋

    • Entrepreneurship can be a roller coaster of a journey, and it's easy to burn out if you don't allow yourself time to recharge. Taking time off allows you to step away from the daily grind, clear your mind, and return to work with renewed energy and focus. Just like a smartphone needs to be recharged to function optimally, so do you!

  2. Creativity: ⚡️

    • Creativity often thrives when you're relaxed and not bogged down by work-related stress. Stepping away from your business for a while can lead to fresh perspectives that can propel your company forward. The time spent pursuing your hobbies can spark inspiration and creativity that you might not find in the daily hustle.

  3. Strengthening relationships: 👫🏻

    • Your business may be your passion, but your personal relationships are equally important. Spending quality time with friends and family not only nurtures your personal bonds but also provides you with a support system that can be invaluable during challenging times in your entrepreneurial journey. Remember, a work-life balance is not a luxury but a necessity.

  4. Avoiding burnout: 🪫

    • Entrepreneurial burnout is a real concern, and neglecting your well-being can have long-term consequences for both you and your business. Regular breaks, weekends spent with loved ones, and self-care can act as protective shields against burnout. By prioritizing your mental and physical health, you're ensuring the sustainability of your entrepreneurial endeavors.

What I’m doing this weekend to recharge:

  • Going on a hot girl walk at this new park I found 🏃🏻‍♀️✨

  • Treating myself to tacos at a annual food festival 🌮

  • Hike on Sunday with my sister and brother 🌄

Taking time off as an entrepreneur is not a sign of weakness or a lack of dedication. On the contrary, it's a strategic move that can benefit both you and your business in the long run. So, don't feel guilty about enjoying weekends with friends and family or taking time for yourself. It's an investment in your well-being, creativity, and ultimately, your success as an entrepreneur. Embrace the power of downtime, and watch how it transforms your entrepreneurial journey for the better!
